Internet Explorer 8 must die – and I tell you why
Perhaps you’re wondering, what this website is good for. The claim that IE8 should die seems a little ahead of time considering the fact, that its successor IE9 isn’t released yet. But let’s look five years ahead, what will the situation be like?
Taking into account the success of Microsoft’s Windows 7 and that IE8 is the default browser for Win7, we’re gonna have a situation similar to nowadays with IE6. The web will be thwarted by the Internet Explorer once again. Let’s speak in plaintext: IE8 is a poor browser in almost every aspect. Even though it’s far better than any other version before, compared to modern browsers IE8 looks like a pile of shit. While the web is happily going towards the HTML5 era, IE8 is going to block the road.
As we’ve all learned the hard way with IE6 such a situation costs a lot of resources in any way. Just the time it took the developers of the world to adjust their sites to IE6 cost a fortune.
Don’t let this happen again!
What do i ask for?
I’m not in the position to demand anything, but I have a few wishes.
- I wish that Microsoft would stop supporting browser older than 3 years* like other vendors do. I’m not seeing this happen anytime soon regarding Microsoft’s policy concerning WinXp and IE6, but it would be nice
. - I wish that web developers would stop supporting browsers older than 3 years*. I think hacking in fixes for ancient browsers is just a waste of time. It’s acceptable for a user to upgrade its browser at least all three years. A computer has to be taken care of just like a vehicle has to be inspected from time to time. Of course no one can be forced to upgrade its browser but then you have to bear the consequences – in this case that more and more websites start to break (I personally don’t think that’s big a problem. New releases of browsers are released quite often without half the web beeing fucked up)
- I wish that IE9 becomes a great, standard supporting browser and the most used Internet Explorer within short time (I know, that’s wishful thinking).
- I wish that Microsoft becomes aware of that it’s not able to develop good browsers and stops developing their browser engines themselves (that’s my favorite wish – best would be they just use webkit or gecko and put their UI around)
* one can debate about the adequate support period
So let’s all help together and start campaigning against IE8! The sooner we start the sooner we’ll get rid of the beast. Sign our petition!
